Okay, so what is this?

Okay, so what is this?

The Finance world makes money feel scary.

Most of us were never taught how money works. So we avoid checking our bank accounts, swing wildly from being afraid to spend anything to blowing it all in one weekend, and feel behind, assuming everyone else has it figured out. Worst of all, we don't talk about money, so we never learn we're not alone.

Most financial services don't help either. They're stuffy and make you feel like you should already know how to manage your money. Too often it's one meeting, a list of things to go do, and then you're left to figure out the rest completely on your own. Stranded.

But money confidence shouldn't be reserved for Wall Street guys or spreadsheet nerds. (I can say that as a joyful spreadsheet nerd myself).

FOLC makes money feel cozy.

FOLC makes money feel cozy.

I wanted to change that. FOLC is online money coaching and education designed to make personal finance feel doable, empowering, and even fun!

Kind people deserve to feel in control of their money, in a way that reflects their values.

Here’s how I make that happen:

Here’s how I make that happen:

No homework.

We do as much as possible together, right in session, so there’s little to nothing left for you to do on your own between sessions. Want to dig in more on your own? Go for it. But it’s not the expectation. We do it together, so nothing falls through the cracks between sessions.

No jargon.

If I ever use a term you don’t know, I’ll explain it, plain and simple. You’ll never be made to feel dumb for not already knowing this stuff. Helping you feel comfortable with this stuff is part of the plan!

No judgment.

However messy your accounts look, whatever your money story is, you’re safe here.  Just kind, practical guidance at your pace, and in an easy, relaxed environment.

A plan built around what actually matters to you.

Together, we’ll define what I call your Ideal Day, vividly imagining the life you want a year from now and beyond. That vision shapes your whole financial plan, so you can spend without guilt, fear, or shame. I’ll be there as your accountability partner and guide, cheering you on every step of the way.

Why “Future Old Ladies”?

The vision for FOLC

I’ve met some women who have really inspired me, retired and semi-retired ladies, doing what they want:

Some, usually off on a travel adventure with friends, picking up new sports, donating generously to causes they care about, and saving for their nibling’s college fund!

Others who chase down the latest culinary thrill, dress in the softest fabrics, and are always there when a loved one needs real help, covering rent or flying to be with them.

Or those ladies who host the biggest, best family get-togethers, spoiling their grandkids and giving them the childhood she always wished she’d had.

They’re all living their Ideal Day!

They’re all living their Ideal Day!

Maybe you’ve met a woman like this too, not afraid to check her bank account, living a life she once only dreamed about, because years ago, she made sure her money was working for her.

That’s who I want to become. Picture me on the porch of a custom, eco-friendly house, sipping organic tea, next to a spoiled Bernese Mountain Dog, watching the sun set over a beautiful mountain vista.

This future old lady me is confident she can handle any curveballs life throws at her without breaking a financial sweat. She’s designed her life around what she actually values: where she lives, who she spends time with, how her days unfold. That’s the vision of my Ideal Day.

I wanted to be a part of their club. So I made Future Old Ladies Club, aka FOLC, for anyone who wants to channel that relaxed, confident, future-old-lady energy for right now and the future.

So what’s your Ideal Day?
I’d love to help you build yours too.

Yeah, but, who are you?

Hi, I’m Wendy! I’m a personal finance nerd. It started at 24, staring down a mountain of grad school debt with no idea what to do about it. I realized, no one ever taught me this stuff, not in school, not at home.

So I taught myself, from books, podcasts, whatever I could find, and had this epiphany: money could be a tool working for me, not a nebulous fear working against me. I didn’t have much, but I had a plan. Suddenly money became easy. It became a source of confidence.

I started talking about money to everyone who would listen, and it worked! Some of my friends’ relationships with money started to change too. I was hooked on watching their  epiphanies. So much so that I eventually left my career in Film & TV production for it!

So then where did FOLC come in?

But there was one person I just couldn’t seem to reach: my own sister. We would sit down to try a new budgeting tool, or to open a savings account. And it was all so daunting and scary for her. Especially spreadsheets. She would get it in the moment, but it wouldn’t be long before it all fell apart and she was afraid to check her bank account again.

And she wasn’t alone. I watched other people I love feel just as daunted, some of them with ADHD like my sister, others just intimidated by money to the point of avoidance. And that’s when it clicked. The “standard” way of doing personal finance doesn’t work for everyone.

I don’t have ADHD myself, and I’m no clinical expert, just a person who believes that money confidence can, and should, be for everyone. So I wanted to build a system that works for my sister, and my friends who have ADHD or are otherwise afraid of money, one built around how people actually think, not how a textbook says they should.

That’s where the no homework, no jargon, no judgment came in. So I would work through it with you, to take the fear out of each step, make it easy to get done, and help it stick.

Here’s what I bring right now:

Here’s what I bring right now:

  • Real, working knowledge of accounts, budgeting, building credit, paying off debt, and planning for the future

  • An eye for the gaps in your financial foundation, and what to prioritize first

  • The ability to actually navigate the systems, forms, and jargon

  • Good judgment on the big decisions

  • Patience, real excitement, full support, and fun welcoming energy

And I’m only getting better. I’m working toward a nationally recognized certification in financial planning, covering a wide breadth of financial topics. I was even awarded a scholarship for the coursework. So in the future, I’ll be able to bring both passion and real, accredited expertise to whatever your finances need.

I’m building FOLC so I can help people feel confident about money, and do it my way: gentle, unintimidating, and fun. You might call it cozy.
